The Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce has created CHAMBER CASH, a year-round gift certificate program designed to encourage consumers to "Support Business that Supports the Community."

Through the CHAMBER CASH program, the Chamber hopes to promote local businesses and encourage consumers to patronize them; make purchasing and giving gifts easier for local consumers; and increase the Chamber?s visibility and effectiveness on behalf of the local community and economy.

CHAMBER CASH gift certificates are available year-round, do not expire, and, like cash, are non-refundable if lost or stolen. The Chamber will promote this program through advertising; maintaining and distributing a list of businesses that accept CHAMBER CASH; and providing participating businesses with CHAMBER CASH decals. Consumers will purchase and participating businesses will redeem CHAMBER CASH gift certificates at the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union.

Here's how the new CHAMBER CASH gift certificate program will work:

Only members of the Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce are eligible to participate in the CHAMBER CASH program. (There is no cost to participate.) To participate, businesses agree to allow consumers to pay for items or services with CHAMBER CASH gift certificates, and to provide consumers with cash for any balance due to them. In addition, participating businesses will display a CHAMBER CASH decal (provided by the Chamber) in full view of consumers.

Consumers will be able to purchase CHAMBER CASH gift certificates with cash or by check at the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union, located at 94 Highland Avenue in Winthrop, during business hours. Consumers will be able to use CHAMBER CASH at any participating business, i.e. any where a CHAMBER CASH decal is displayed.

For their convenience, participating businesses will be able to be reimbursed for CHAMBER CASH gift certificates in three ways: 1) Mailing gift certificates to the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union, PO Box 55, Winthrop, ME 04364; 2) Going to the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union at 94 Highland Avenue in Winthrop; or 3) Calling the Chamber at 377-8020 and asking a representative to come to the business within 24 hours.
